Recreational, Athletic, and Sport injuries are not age, gender, or culture specific –

TEACH YOUR NURSE LEARNERS TO CONSIDER THE MECHANISM OF INJURY TO ITS SEVERITY EARLY ON IN PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT

 

 

 

 Common injuries sustained by activity type:

  • Back- weight lifting,skiing, sledding, contact sports
  • Jaw- cycling, field hockey, various contact sports without use of headgear, skiing 
  • Clavical- cycling, gymnastics, skiing,snowmobiling, contact sports such as football, hockey, wrestling
  • Shoulder- bowling, inline skating, skate/snow boarding, hockey, trampoline, rugby, skiing,wrestling
  • Elbow- cycling, baseball pitching, football, gymnastics, handball, squash, tennis, wrestling
  • Wrist- bowling, handball, horseback riding, inline/ice skating, hockey, soccer, wrestling
  • Knee- basketball, football, jockey, inline skating, various track and field, skiing, soccer/speedball
  • Ankle- ball sports, running and contact sports 
  • Foot- dancing, running
